GOLD LABEL AWARDED TO THE 2008 INTERNATIONAL PARIS MARATHON

The International Paris Marathon is one of the landmark races in the running world and has been for many years now.
The IAAF Commission, during its most recent session, decided to confirm this position and to reward to the competition a GOLD LABEL for 2008.

This reward is attributed to only 12 international races (including 8 marathons). Among the deciding factors for the IAAF were: the organizational standards of the race, the number of participating athletes and the level of the international TV and media coverage. The 32nd edition of the race will start from the Champs- Elysées on Sunday the 6th of April 2008 at 8:45AM.

The route will take the runners through the streets of Paris, notably via the Place de la Concorde, the rue de Rivoli, the Bastille, the Bois de Vincennes, the Quais de Seine, the Trocadéro and the Bois de Boulogne with a finish on Avenue Foch. As is the case every year, Marathon Expo will open its doors prior to the race, on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of April.

All runners will be able to collect their bib numbers from there and profit from this privileged meeting place for both runners and professionals from the running community. Close to 140 exhibitors will be present while the exhibition will welcome the public free of charge. 2008 INTERNATIONAL PARIS MARATHON: 35, 000 runners registered Four months before the start of the International Paris Marathon the organizers have closed entries, after receiving 35,000 complete registrations.

The fixed limit, maintained for the last three years to ensure comfortable participation conditions in the starting and finishing zones, was reached within the space of two months; a clear indication of the manifest enthusiasm generated by the Paris Marathon each year. 86 % of entries for the 2008 edition were registered on-line via the web site. Of the 35,000 competitors registered, approximately 17% are women and more than 70% of participants are French.

As in 2007, the regions of Brittany, Nord Pas de Calais and Provence Alpes Côtes d’Azur are the most represented. Close to 100 nationalities will be present this year, with almost 10,000 runners from foreign countries, including: England (approximately 2,600 participants), Germany (approximately 900), America (close to 850) and Italy (more than 800).

A privileged meeting place for runners and professionals from the running community. For the last 10 years the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre has housed Marathon Expo, the great international rendezvous for running races. Over the years this modern, functional venue has permitted the development of a major event whose powerful growth has fulfilled the organizers’ ambition to combine a landmark event for all running enthusiasts with France’s greatest road race. Marathon Expo is a compulsory destination for the 35,000 runners who need to collect their bib numbers and time-keeping chips from there. It is also open and free of charge to the general public and welcomes some 60,000 visitors over two and a half days. If you wish to buy running related products and services, have new products tested and launched, gain popularity with a population of runners or participate at interactive events, Marathon Expo is the pace to go.
