the most exciting and coolest event
in Brazil: the annual Rio Surf
Pro International contest.
The
event will take place at Arpoador Beach (between Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches)
in Rio Di Janeiro where the world’s best surfers will gather for a whole
week in order to offer to the crowds moments of wow and excitement.
THE OBJECTIVE
Rio Surf Pro has a mission to fulfil.
That is to promote Rio Di Janeiro
as the capital city for surfing
all over the world. Rio Surf Pro
aims to stimulate the aspiring
and professional Brazilian athletes,
divulge surfing in Brazil and encourage
the tourism of the city.

the centre of the world as the
capital of surfing in Brazil

increase international popularity
of the event and promote surf

THE PRIZE
In collaboration with ASP (the
official Association of the Surfing
Professionals) and the city authorities
of Rio, the organizers of Rio
Surf Pro International have promised
to thrill the more than 50,000
goers. 192 male surfers and 48
female from all over the world
will congregate their boards
to hit the waves on the 6th of
October. The prize for the first
male winner has been announced
to be US$135.000 while for the
female one US$25.000. Some of
the big names that have confirmed
their participation this year
include: Vitor Ribas, Neco Padaratz,
Raoni Monteiro, Leo Neves, Marcelo
Trekinho, Shea Lopez (EUA), Chris
Davidson(AUS), Gabe Kling (USA),
Pancho Sullivan (HAW), Shaun
Cansdell (AUS) and many many
others.
THE EXTRAS
The Air Show
During the event, the organizers
have been preparing a number of
other activities during the day
and night in order to entertain
the crowds. For example, for the
first time ever an AIR SHOW will
take place and US$2.000 will be
awarded to the surfer who will
manage to perform the quickest
air manoeuvre.
The Skate Show
Skate shows have been scheduled
to take place every day at the
Park Garota in Ipanema where the
best skaters in the country coming
from FAVELA SURF CLUB and ROCINHA
SURF SCHOOL will bring along their
skateboards to excite the crowds
with unique performances.
The Music Shows
A number of live music shows with
famous bands and DJs, such as Didob,
ForFun, Moptop, Medusas Dread,
Urca Sonica will take place the
last two days of the event. The
so called music ‘Sunset Shows’ will
kick off in Park Garota in Ipanema
Beach.
The Photo Exhibition
A photo exhibition will take place
during the entire duration of the
event. Historical pictures will
narrate the evolution of surfing
until the present times throughout
the South Zone of Rio di Janeiro,
i.e. Coppacabana, Diabo, Arpoador
and Ipanema. The photographs will
be donated for the collection of
the Surf Museum that has been built
near Park Garota between Aproador
and Ipanema Beaches.
The Movies
A selection of the best national
and international movies and documentaries
related to surfing will be screened
during the event.
The Opening Fiesta
The official opening fiesta will
take place on the 8th of October
at Palaphita Kitch in Lagoa from
10PM till 6AM and a lot of surprise
DJs and shows with reggae and surf
music will entertain the audience.
The Media
The event will be covered online
by Globoesportes.com while the
quarters, semi-finals and finals
will be live broadcasted on television
by SPORTV and SPORTV2.
A lot of pr and publicity has been
taking place in the country while
a number of celebrities and VIPs
are expected to attend the event.
