ABOUT
THE VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK |
|
|
One of the biggest fashion happenings on the West Coast!
For
13 seasons Vancouver Fashion Week
(VFW) has been an attraction for
designers from around the world,
delivering a multicultural and
diverse fashion experience. Recognized
as a global platform for designers
and sponsors, VFW has become the
West coast’s most prestigious event, attracting an audience of approximately 15,000(+).
Now
celebrating its 9th year, VFW has
established itself as a highly
successful and widely recognized
event, providing a forum to nurture
and celebrate the fashion industry
in Vancouver. In recent years,
VFW has featured internationally
acclaimed designers such as Versace,
Parasuco, Rocawear, Ecko, Anna
Sui, Lauren Vidal and Turnover
in addition to emerging designers,
such as Cherry Melaney, Frost Sportiva
and Helen Lee.
In
the upcoming season, VFW is proud
to focus on areas of fashion which
we know are presently a significant
part of the industry in Vancouver.
These areas include street wear,
eco-friendly fashions and aboriginal
designs.
A
distinctive style not to be confused
with hip hop fashion is street
wear. Street wear is youth; it
is a retro 80s look inspired by
the sneaker culture and hipsters
on New York’s Lower East Side. Street wear is a huge trend in Vancouver as well as Whistler.
Vancouver
is known for its underground street
wear and cool culture; recognizing
Vancouver’s street wear presence, VFW will shine the spotlight on talented local and international designers by dedicating a whole day to showcasing their innovative designs. New York hipsters may have birthed the street wear culture, but it was the fashion innovators of Vancouver who perfected it.
Sustainable fashion is a part of the growing design philosophy.
Environmentalism
in the fashion industry began through
a percentage of sales being donated
to a charitable cause. Today fashion
designers are reducing impacts
at the source by making conscious
decisions to use more environmentally
friendly materials and socially
responsible methods in clothing
preparation. Vancouver Fashion
Week is proud to partner with these
designers to support the growth
of this green trend and will persistently
look to further the practice of
a sustainable lifestyle.
Aboriginal
designers represent the First Nations
- the original inhabitants of Vancouver,
so it is important for VFW to recognize
the rich culture and history of
this community. VFW takes pride
in showcasing the distinct heritage
we have as Canadians through today’s fashion. In past seasons aboriginal designers included Shannon Kilroy, Pam Baker and D’Arcy
Moses.
VFW
has continued to build an international
presence through worldwide media
coverage and provides unrivalled
exposure for designers, sponsors,
and models.VFW is a unique opportunity
unlike any other in Western Canada
that we hope you will be a part
of. Eye Candy Media Inc. in collaboration
with VFW invites you to join us
this November 3rd to 8th, 2009
for the biggest fashion event on
the West Coast.
Eye Candy continues
to set new standards in event marketing.
